Joe Leak's practice includes the defense of litigation involving professional malpractice, business transactions, and construction. He provides counsel to a wide array of businesses and works with clients to develop preventive measures to minimize risks and avoid the expense of litigation. He has litigated and tried to a verdict numerous cases ranging from wrongful death, personal injury and property damage claims to contractual disputes, large construction defect cases, insurance coverage disputes, architectural and engineering malpractice, medical malpractice and healthcare facility negligence.
Other areas of experience include the negotiation and drafting of contracts, advice as to the applicability and impact of state and federal regulations, assistance in the development of risk management programs, and the analysis of insurance programs. With extensive experience in the area of alternative dispute resolution, he is on the approved rosters for the State of Alabama as a mediator, appellate mediator, and arbitrator.
Mr. Leak is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Alabama. He is a member of numerous local, state and national organizations, including The Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, The Defense Research Institute, and The Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. Leak has been admitted to practice on a pro hac basis in the states of Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. He currently enjoys an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for an attorney bestowed by that organization.
Mr. Leak is a 1986 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 1989, he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law.
Mr. Leak is a member of the following organizations: Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the ABA, Roster of Mediators for the Alabama State Bar, Roster of Appellate Mediators for the Alabama State Bar, Roster of Approved Arbitrators for the Alabama State Bar, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the American Society of Trial Consultants.
